The baffle between my fuge section and return section came loose from the sump wall yesterday and about a couple cups of sand is now in the return area. Now instead of the water flowing over the top of the baffle the water is flowing at the bottom taking sand with it. A small amount of sand is being sucked in the return pump and shot into the DT. I'm afraid i will have to take the sump out and start over...

Awe man that sucks, sorry to hear that. Did you use glass or acrylic baffles?

Acrylic. I think I will use glass next time and make a few minor tweeks to the design and add some spacers and bracing.

why not take the sump offline and drain and fix under the stand? is there room to do that? i had to do that under my old 90g since the sump wouldnt come out unless the display was removed. it was a tricky fix but saved alot more headaches then removing everything.

I never thought to drain and fix it in place. Good idea. As for now I have made a few temporary fixes to it that seem to be doing pretty good!

on thing to think about, if you have room, is a remote fuge. I have a 20g sump and a 7 gallon fuge separated which will never crud-up my sump. You can also put the sand in your fuge into a tupperware container in your fuge section to that it doesn't place pressure on the baffles.
