Okay, I know there are people that have successfully kept anemones under PC, but was wondering if there was anyone on that had personal experience wit hit. Either in your tank or a friend's tank.

I have a 10 gallon that is over 2 months old. (I know, wait for at least 6 more months, I like to plan ahead) I am going to put 12-15 pounds of LR in there so it will be able to get up high. So does anyone think a BTA can be successfully kept under a 40 watt PC?

The tank is 12 inches deep, but the anemone will be able to sit 2-3 inches below the water line so if it wanted it could be literally right under the light.

I know they like higher lighting, but I keep hearing from people that have kept them successfully (for over a year) in smaller tanks with PC. Just want to get a general consensus from 3reefers.

i will tell you and get bashed for it
bta will grow larger and split more often the less light you give em'
i have had 1 that since 95 has split over 25 times
it has been under vho pc and t5
it did best under pc lighting that was under 3.5 watts per gallon

i would worry about tank space rather than lighting if i were you

I've got a bta under 72w of PC in a 24g nano and it's already split once and about to do it again from the looks of it, it's very healthy and does great, it's all about the tank with the PC's it's an issue where if they fit the application they do a great job

The thing I'd be scared of more than anything is a 10g tank with a bta, anenome's are very very sensitive to fluctuations in water levels, IE ammonia or nitrite spikes as well as changes in temp, with a smaller body of water those can spike and change very raplidly
I think the PC's with the right bulbs would do fine but I'd be scared of putting one in there, could be a very expensive experiment

Just because it's splitting doesn't mean it's doing well. The only reason why it is splitting so often under "less light" is because the organism is extremely stressed and splits as a hope that one of the pair may survive. In these conditions anemones may often look bleached or sick.
Otherwise, 40w for 10g's with a 4" depth, the anemone would do okay. Your only true concern would be keeping the water conditions pristine in a 10g. Thats a very small volume of water to keep in tip top shape- a challenge that I would advise only with one with plenty of expertise in SW reef keeping. Anemones are huge waste producers- be careful.

Agree, will do OK. May not grow very fast, but will get along.

I have a couple small ones in my 12 gal. Nanocube under 24w lighting.

A little light in a small tank can go along way.

May be some other factors to consider like perfectly clear water, no surface scum, etc.... (anem size may be consideration ... look for small one)
