have the skimmer return all the water to the sump. And have a return pump that is closer to your overflow rate, return to the DT. Or am I not understanding what is going on?

I just finished my three chamber sump, Skimmer on the left, return in the middle, and fuge on the right, All the water from the skimmer will be returned to the skimmer chamber, and will flow thru a bubble trap, and into the return, the fuge with just flow right into the return. I Dont have a problem yet, I was just thinking about this way to much I guess, We will find out this weekend if I have problems with this.

The Pump Is actually The Mag 12 That will run the skimmer, Its just there for illistrative purposes. Got any questions about it ask me and I will be glad to answer them! It is a 20 Gallon long. Incase I haven't mentioned that...

Four trips to lowes, and one to midwest reefs, Finally got it plumbed. Still short one mag pump for the return. I managed to break my center baffle on my BT while doing this. Everything is very very carefully squeezed in there, it looks like the skimmer wont come out, But I designed it so I can still get it out for what not.
The real PITA was getting the tank in there, I had to drain all the water, Knock out the center brace, slip the tank in, and then replace all the water, I probaly have essentially started from square one by doing that. But its worth it, I have nothing but time.

Thank you. Im about to mix up some more saltwater and do the leak test! lets hope I got it right the first time. I just added about 20lbs of sugar sand to the fuge.

I have the same pump setup and sump. I have a EV-120, but am waiting on a PM 1.

The 9.5 will only put out what it can with the piping restrictions and head loss. Since you went to 1", (or is it3/4) it will only flow so much. The return to the pump is balanced by the overflow from the tank. They equal each other so it is irrelevant what everything else is doing. Both sections overflow to the return section.

The Mag 12 only has 1 foot of head loss at max, but it isn't putting out 1200 gph. 1200 is based of free flow. You have some restricted tubing going to the PM. Second, the PM restricts it a lot. It operates on pressure, not gph. You want high pressure. PM told me that a Mag 12 will flow a total of about 500 gph on a PM1.

So even if your 9.5 is only doing 400 gph, and the 12/PM1 can process 500 gph, it still does not matter. Bottom line is that you will just be recycling some of the water in the skimmer section. However, the last thing you want to do is put a valve in and throttle the flow to the skimmer. You will just be reducing pressure and compromising the performance of the PM1.

I'm no expert on this, I just got finished doing the same. What type of bulkhead fittings are you using?
