I know this is a dumb Question but I really never gave much thought to it until I read that Otty runs his actinics for 16 hrs. Do the blue actinics help in keeping the ph normal, like a refuguim? Or does he do it only for a visual pleasure?

Corals use blue actinic light to help with photosynthesis. I don't think it affects ph.

It would help with PH because photosyntheses will continue to take place therefore o2 is being released into the water. This will increase or maintain PH

CR are you saying that zooxanthellae require Actinics because of the Kelvin of the light?

Yes Jason! Actinic lighting is the most beneficial for the stimulating of zooxanthellae as well as provide corals with much needed energy!
