Hi everyone...you may remember I set up a 90gal tank in an assisted living facility where I work. The tank is coming along and maturing, and I am taking my time w/it. My new question is this. How do the livestock get rest in an environment where there is always lights on. I have timers in my HO fixtures that go off around 7pm, but the facility lights are always on. I always wondered about that in public displays. Will it shorten the fish's lifespan, or do they still find a way to sleep? Thx in advance!

It's something I've never thought about before.
That being said, all my tanks are subjected to 24 hr lighting as well and have been for many many years now. My tanks are all in the basement and I have many many pails of phyto growing and lights for those are on 24/7.
I guess if you were to worry about it you could always have your wife make up some drapes and install them around the tank to block light, but in my case, I've never seen a problem.
The corals still open up for feeding after lights go out, some fish go to sleep, and the night critters come out in great numbers.

Thats one of the things I love about salt tanks...The nocturnal critters. Ok, I wont stress it. I just thought that if they see light, they will always swim or otherwise be active.

If you have enough cover/caves the tank inhabitants can hide if they want too.
