Ok so I know that the timing kinda sucks but I am leaving for college on Thursday and I have some problems with my tangs.

    1) Neither of them are eating algae off of the clip I gave them. There was some algae on the rocks that they ate which is a bonus but now it is gone and I need them to eat soon. Any tips to get them to eat?

    2) My blue tang is laying around alot and seems to be breathing fast and when he is swimming its in an area of flow. For example when he sleeps he sleeps right under the output of my refugium. Any idea what is wrong? Also as I am typing this now my Blue tang is rubbing his side on the rocks but cannot see any Ich.

    3) Yellow tang has a few black spots on him. I read that this may be black ich and I would have to dip him in fresh water. However I have alot of rock and can't catch him. So, I did try to lower the salinity by adding RO and gave him the seaweed with garlic which boosts their immune system. I will try to give it a day and if the black ich gets worse I will have to build a sort of trap. How would u suggest I tackle the ich and capture him if I have to?

Any help would be good. Thanks

you might try attaching the algae to a rock with a rubberband or something. they might feel more comfortable with this than the clip. many times the ich hits the lungs first so that could be the blue tangs problem. i normally just keep feeding and let them beat the ich on their own. However, i have never dealt with black ich.

When you say blue tang, I'm assuming your talking about blue hippo tang & not a powder blue? My blue hippo tang just got done going through a hunger strike for the last 10days. He did have ich & would lay on the ground a just pant. He couldn't catch his breath & i thought he was dying. I have heard from many other saltwater fish enuthuiast that tangs can go as long as 3 weeks of not eating. The scratching behavior & laying under the ref sure sounds like ick to me. Just cause you can't seem white spots yet, doesn't mean they're not there. You're fish from my expierence will have ick long before you'll see it. We just had our pacific sailfin tang, yellow tang, blue hippo tang, schooling bannerfish, & are female tomato clown have a severe outbreak of ick. Everything on the market doesn't work. haha seriously, & if it does it may be different for everyfish what the respond better too. Low Salinity, Fresh water dipping, (we never went over 4mins w/that), adding cleaner shrimp if possible (that was the best) along w/a uv steriolizer helped.

ok thank you he was starting to eat just before I left and the yellow was catching on. I did lower the salinity a little and will continue to feed vitamin supplements and to give him algae with garlic
