Put in a box (like the ones you see the catch fish with at a LFS) and get it snugly into a spot, and use your hand to guide/scare him into the box. LFS catches all fish this way, seems much easier than net/trapping.

LOL, ive tried the coke bottle thing as well, to try to catch my mata tang, and well i had just about the same results, put your net or nets in the tank tonight, and let them sit for a few hrs for your fish to get used to them, then put food inside the nets, and sort of entice the fish you want to swim in the net, and then bam, you have him lol thats how i caught my mata

tried that.. didnt work... although i didnt leave the nets that long.
he would get the food, and by the time i got close to the net he would swim away to the rocks... if i kept my hand in the tank he would not come out the rocks either.

im telling you, this fish is smart! lol

id leave the net in overnight, without food, let them swim around, and get used 2 the net, and then put the food in, keep it frozen if you can, that way it takes longer for them to get pieces off of it, and just stand by your tank for a little while when you have some free time, and just stay still and once you see him get close, slowly put your hand on the handle off the net, and just twist it so he's trapped in the net with the glass on the open part, so he has no where 2 go but in, so basically you want to put the net so he can only get in one way, and out one way so you can twist it quick and get him

worse comes to worse, make a big hole in your sand bed, drain your tank till all the water is in the whole, all your fish will be in that whole, then pick what you want. just use it as a last resot though.

I had the same issue with my fire clown pair - I tried it all and caught each fish except the clowns
I was under a time issue - as in I need to get them out before they kill all my other fish.
If you have time use the net and place it in the dt so they get use to it - then put food in the net and wait it out - let the other fish eat out of the net. I have been successful using that method - but does take time.
With my clowns I had to take all my rock out and have my wife block 3/4 of the tank off - still took me 30 min to catch them - never again.;D
