i suggest t5's for any tank smaller then 75 gallons.

 

Ordered the Nova Extreme T5 24" 96 watts with individual bulb reflectors. Finally made my decision.. thanks!

 

For 16G, you would be ok with T5s. I have a little 70W HQI on my 20G, and FWIW, it really doesn't heat my tank any bit more than my CF sitting 4" above the water. T5 will be easier on your electric bill though.

 

I wouldnt buy halides from aquatraders

ive heard some horror stories

id rather spend extra knowing that my house is not gona burn down

 

Ha! From what I read those problems are in the past. They even changed their names a few times I guess.. (Odyssea). I have a friend who has a large halide setup from them, and it works great.. he also canfix it if it decides to be a fire hazard.. me no way. I went withthe Nova extreme SLR. HOpefully DFS sends me the right one.. I read when they came out a month ago, the were sending the old model. I swear to god if this happens!!
