I started a ten as my first tank. Threw an HOB 40 gallon filter and a zoomed atinic on there. Had that for close to four months with ten pounds rock and a damsel with no issues.

I have a 24g Nano. My first SW tank. I really am very happy with it. But then again I don't know any better. I have not really upgraded anything. I will upgrade teh pump soon and lighting just cause I want SPS corals.. Other than that tank is big enough for a small room, its Quiet which I like and I love the look. My fish and corals are happy in there home. My only issue is I want to over stock that thing... But since you have a bigger tank already you don't have to worry about that.

I bought the tank for my 4 year old daughter and I. She absolutly loves it. She helps me take care of it and has learned alot as well as myself. Just my 2 cents. I see alot of used nano tanks for under or around the 200 dollar mark. Good luck with your search.

I was lookin on CL and haven't seen any.I appreciate all the great info here. I was thinkin a 24 gallon also. I think its perfect size and maintence requirement that a 12 year old can handle, with my overseeing of course!

If your a good DIY'er you can get a 20 long and install a false wall 6" from one end so you end, up with a 24" display and 6" "sump" area, Build some chambers to hold the heater, cheato and whatever else you want. Then build a canopy and install some 24" T5's over the display section. Paint the glass that makes up the sump area and your set.

I was so tempted to do this for my upgrade before I finally settled on a 40 breeder. The few times I've seen it done it just looks so sweet.

I love it! Now, I am off to the drawing board and cross referencing it with my bank account to see what I can do! My wife is gonna kill me, but I think if I say I am doing it for her, I might get away with it!...
I'll keep everyone posted. Wish me luck!
