The coralline indicates the length of time and ionic support for the system, these corals are fed well and are traded as needed.

In the bottom link, you will see the sealed .5 gallon sps reef that does not evaporate. Oxygen is controlled in a simple manner and you can see the types of sps this will support, it's a fun discussion and a rare living room focal point in the very least...

it will be interesting to see how these age.

edit: it must be a pain to scrap the coralline of the inside of the curved tank

thanks for checkin them out. it is a true pain to deal with the diatoms and coralline, currently and lazily I just use a piece of scouring pad cuz I'm tired of the work! Actually a curved razor blade, held angled by a pair of hemostats, is surgically accurate enough to get in between the spaces. at times the blade slips off though, so I just got lazy and paid with some scratches...the corals don't care obviously!

I have found dosing the system each morning with C balance greatly lessens the microalgae and diatom buildup within the system, a mystery as to why I like the coralline and sps growth with a dosing approach vs water change only

hey thanks for stopping in to chat!

here are some pics. in that video with the square tank the main feature is that it does not evaporate a drop, the salinity stays put no matter how long you leave it sealed. the video showed the internal refugium, makes enough oxgen to run the respiration demands of the .5 gallon system and it was years old at the time of the film, just wanted to post some different reef items for a different kind of tank
