I picked these 2 boys up at Petco yesterday for only $23 each (OMG I need a quarantine tank /crosses fingers). They really took to their new home in my big old LTA. One has some frayed fins but i think he will heal up quickly. I have never had a pair of clowns before but they are very interesting to watch. Already defending their territory against the damsel and coral beauty when they get too close :cheesy:. So do you think one will change to a female down the road? They are only about 1 inch currently.

Hopefully! Were they in the same tank when you got them?

They were in separate tanks at Petco but so far they are acting like best buddies.

It may take a while, but they'll start chasing each other around, nipping, etc. LOOKS like fighting, but it's a display of dominance. The female is almost always bigger, and they could take over a year to successfully spawn.

I'm not really interested in them breeding. I just read that they do better in pairs. Is this true?

I don't think they necessarily do "better" in pairs, but when they are a pair, they stick together and spawn. They may feel safer when they are together, but I don't know.

I am hoping they will both stay the same size.

One is always going to be a little bit bigger than the other. It's not too noticeable, though.
