After a few weeks of lurking on this site without making an account I finally decided it was time.

I have been wanting to make a refugium for my 75gal reef tank... After a couple weeks of studying different designs I decided to start with Luna's most recent (?) and go from there. I would really appreciate it if I could get some feedback on my diagram. ::)

First here is my tank info and current setup and all that stuff:

    • 75gal reef tank
    • Six Line Wrasse, Maroon Clown, Fox Face, Royal Gramma Basslet, Cleaner Shrimp
    • ProClear 150 wet/dry
    • ProClear protein skimmer
    • (2) Rio 2500's
    • Koralia 1
    • MaxiJet 1200 - modded to 2100 gph

The way my stand is set up I am unable to fit a large tank under it for my sump/refugium so I have taken two tanks that I had laying around, a 10gal and 5gal and plan to make them work together as one.

So does this look like it's going to work it should or is there something I'm missing or not doing right? Any suggestions to make this any better? Thanks!!

(Some of the proportions are off a bit, yes.)

looks great from what i can see, the connecting tube may be a good way to control micro bubbles from the skimmer. don't forget the lighting

I would reverse the flow and put skimmer in sump rather than fuge. That is assuming the smaller tank will be the fuge. It's pretty much the same as my set-up other than that.

sostoudt: Haven't forgotten the lighting, just figured it was a given. I plan on using a flood light, as I've seen others on here have success.

hackem688: The two tanks I have are glass, I am going to have the baffles cut from glass as well, I've read that plexiglass doesn't adhere very well with silicone like glass does, plus it's more expensive. I have had so many sketches up to this point with so many different designs. I figured if I'm going to do this I'm going to research the heck out of it instead of being impulsive.

I'm going to start this as soon as I acquire the circle glass cutting tool my mother has (weird she has this) and the bulkheads (which I think I can construct from conduit pvc from Lowes) I am also thinking I can talk the lowes guy into cutting my baffles to size and then it's on! I can't wait!

There really isn't much of a sump, if there is the skimmer is in it. It's basically two fuge's hooked together and the flow will pull from skimmer and thru both fuges and to display tank. I suppose I should add plants to my diagram as to be more clear.

Sounds good. But you can get real bulkheads on line they will most likely work easer I’m lucky enough to have a store here that sells aquarium plumbing supplies here. Check the link below. Just another note there is a product called weld-on for acrylic and it works.

    PS like my Fuge/water bottle

I've seen that I can order them however my patience is hard to keep in check especially when everything else is at Lowes.

I meant to say earlier that yea I like your setup, ghetto but it works! I saw it several times while I was reading through all the refugium posts on here. I'm not brave or should I say creative enough to not only try something like that, but to make it work!

No sump gotcha. What do you plan on putting in the fuge(s)? What kind of macro? What else?
