I feed my fish tonight and noticed something strange...my flame hawkfish was not coming out to eat and he's usually the first one in line when its feeding time.

I started looking around and sure enough I see a pile of hermit crabs behind a rock and see a fin sticking out and moving in the current. I don't understand what happened, I immediately tested the water, ammonia 0, nitrite 0, ph 8.3, nitrate 0

I don't know if this had anything to do with my dino issue that I've been combating but its very sad to see him go he was one of the first in the tank a year ago.

This is a picture I took of him Sunday

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Sorry for the loss. Flames have so much personality in my experience.

Dino can be toxic but I did not loose fish to it.

Buddy, I am so sorry. My flame is one of my favorite fish and I'm sorry to see you lose yours.

Fish hold their illnesses very well. They are built by nature to not appear weak for survival purposes. It could have been anything that took him in reality. My clown tried to attack my hand when I was moving some scape, and accidentally hit the rock I held 3 times (lmao) but one day later I noticed he was acting stupid. Come to find it got a concussion, and to this day still isn't quite right. My best advice, from somebody raised around animals his whole life, don't get so attached. Life happens, and some of us are lucky enough to watch it happen.
