This morning my daughter (9 years old) starts hollaring at me while I'm taking my shower that my blood shimp has died..

I quickly finish my shower and get presentable enough to go downstairs and see what she is talking about.

Very quickly I realise and reassure her that the blood shrimp has only shed and not passed away since he was moving around quite fine a few inches from the shed skin she thought was a corpse.

So she's calmed down and off to school etc the shed has been removed and all is right in the world. :)

Just thought I'd share as I'm sure I'm not the only one to have had similar happen.

Man I cannot tell you how scarred I was that I was losing all of my shrimp and hermit crabs the first few times I saw their molts!!!!

That is the sign of some healthy inhabitants!!!!

Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing!!!

tell her I thought the same thing when I first saw my cleaner shrimp molt. I noticed the shell stuck in my condy. That condy was so close to taking a trip to the freezer, but it was early in the morning and I had to go to work. I remember thinking, "Have fun condy this is your last day on Earth." Then I got home and found my shrimp happily under his rock, which saved the condy's life.

I was pretty bummed for a few days when I was first getting started in the hobby after I saw my coral banded shrimp molt lol I thought he was a goner...

I hope I never see my mantis shrimp's molt. Even though I'm well aware of the process, I know I will still initially freak out!

Same thing happened to me. I got rid of my trigger because I blamed him of the molt hehe. Lesson learned.

I used to have f/w crabs and one day my husband FREAKED because he had thought she died. I had to explain to him that Ms. crab had to molt her skin because she was getting too fat to fit in her other one. I then showed him her and all was ok. He was pretty astonished by it too.

i just recently saw my pistol molt and I thought he died! I had seen him molt frequently but this time it was different. I saw a crab eating the pincher part of the shrimp and thought I saw more then a shell. Luckily I heard his snapping later on.

I leave my molts in there, because they will eat it and get back some iodine and other stuff they need (especially important with bigger mantis!)

I saw my sally light foot's molt and was worried. Even though I thought it was a molt I didn't see it again for a couple days. Probably was just making sure it was fine to come back out. Freaked me out for a while.
