A vegan group lost it on me for owning a tank

So I am a vegan, and I replied to a facebook thread regarding protests of aquariums in Toronto where I live.

I responded saying actually the environment created is ideal for many of the animals and inverts and their health in captivity exceeds that in the wild.

The group proceeded to attack me, (and my personal life, calling me a jet-setting contributor to global warming, saying my house was too large, and monster for keeping animals captive) and basically went completely insane.

Honestly what is wrong with people? I spend hours and hours a day on my tank. My corals are thriving. My fish are (or seem) very happy. I have no one thats too big for a 55 gallon. My largest fish is a canary blenny.

Anyway - just wanted to vent, because people who have nothing better to do than create grief, protest, and attack are just completely insane.

 

Fire up the grill...plop on a nice juicy steak.. grab a cold beer and stay off face book.. all will be right with the world..

 

Ha ha people are fanatical by nature, and for some people they lack reason and intelligence. Just walk away and do not give them the soap box to stand on or at least let it fall on deaf ears.

Damn you guys should be doing that within the next month... almost warm enough! Used to live in Northborough, Shrewsbury and Worcester.

 

Couldn't live without meat or my tanks. Just ignore it man and leave Facebook behind. I did years ago and I'm drama free

Now a days there's always going to be some one/group who disagrees with something you do or live by. Being able to stand up for yourself without sinking to their level is a commendable virtue. You said what you needed to, now sit back and enjoy that reef tank!

 

I've joined a couple of reefing related fb groups and wow. There are some quality groups and then there are some groups that you wouldn't expect a drunk sailor turned construction worker to keep up with all the nuts. In a way, we're all nuts about something or nuts about nothings. Some people believe they have to be loud, angry and rude to get their point across.

From my past experiences, anger usually always leads to exaggeration and lies and draaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaama. Some of those FB groups have more drama than Days of Our Lives!

 

People outside of the hobby don't understand and probably never will if they are too close minded not to attack it.

I mean no offense toward you by my signature, but it is a little funny considering the OP.
