When I was a kid, back in the stone age, I had a few small freshwater aquariums. Now that I'm all grown up, I'd like to upgrade to the saltwater tank I've always wanted. I was thinking about a 150-180 gallon display and probably 50-75ish gallon sump/fuge. Just fish and inverts, not ready for corals at this point due to my lack of knowledge about marine aquariums.
The only thing stopping me is my job. I'm an inspector in the oil and chemical industries and have been known to go out of state for several weeks at a time. I can trust family members to feed the fish, but not much more than that. Is there any way to get things set up so that I can do nothing but feed for 2 or 3 weeks at a time, or am I stuck with freshwater as long as I stay in my current field?

As long as you don't keep animals that have special feeding requirements, it shouldn't be a problem. Yeah, there is a lot of learning and a lot of work to get a system to where you want it to be, but there is a wide range of fish and even corals that are easy to care for. Just be realistic. Two things I would recommend. A reef controller would allow you to monitor your system from anywhere. Also, join a local reef club, if you have one in the area, otherwise, find a lfs that you trust that can help with problems if you are out of town. It's good to have family to feed the fish, but if there is a real problem, you need to have someone knowledgeable enough to handle it.
