I just added what was listed as a Purple Pseudochromis at my LFS to my 55 reef.
I am a bit confused as i heard this fish also referred to as a Magenta Dottyback.
    Are they the same fish?

Right now he is hiding behind the thermometer as my Sixline Wrasse is not happy with his new tankmate.
Any problems with these 2 as far as compatibility?

I've never seen my Sixline bother anyone else so i didn't even give it a second thought when purchasing.
I added a Flame Angel 2 days ago with no issues at all.

Dottyback is common name for Pseudochromidae family. Purple Pseudochromis is also known as Magenta dottyback or purple dottyback.

Both sixline and dottyback can be a bully. Remove sixline (if you can catch him) to sump for a few days until dottyback is fully acclimated to your tank. Sixline is known to show temperament to similar fish (shape or color).

I added a bi-color psuedo to my tank a while back and he was a complete bully. I had to take everything out of the tank to catch him so I could return him to my lfs. I wonder if the magenta are less aggressive. I didnt even have a fish close to the same color or shape. I had a yellow tang and a diamond goby, both went into hiding for a week until I removed him.

My new Dotty is still hiding between the thermometer & glass. He's breathing heavy and i'm starting to worry that this is not going to end the way i want it too.
He is at the very top of the tank and won't swim down to hide in the rocks at all.

He isn't even close to the same shape as the 6 line.
I shut the light so maybe they will chill out,

He will get bullied for a while but they have a bad rep since they are usually quite aggressive. He will be passive for a while and then begin to defend himself.
They are usually aggressive when they settle down unless there's another fish larger and more aggressive than he is to keep him at bay.
Mine was aggressive till my blue damsels took a toll on him. Now he's very passive.
Give him a few days. By the 3rd day, he should be settled and begin to eat properly. It'd help if the rock work is altered a bit so he could find his own hiding place.

Thanks for the advice. This is my first experience with a Pseudo so i wasn't sure.
    The tankmates are;
    Sixline Wrasse
    Flame Angel
    Shrimp Goby
    Mimic Blenny
    2-Clowns
Hopefully it won't bully any of these when it gets comfortable.:-/

The sixline would give him a run for his money. But don't get too worried, mine has been through hell and back and still kicking. He's a bit hesitant to eat sometimes sine the damsels punish him but he will eat anything that comes his way.

    Thanks for the help.
I'm not too familiar with these smaller fish and maybe i should have done more research. I just hope it doesn't harass my other fish because from what i've been reading it's a pretty good possibility it will.

Saw the little guy eat today!
NIKKI SIXXLINE seems to be harassing him less, also.
