When ever I saw turnover rates before it was with fresh water, and the turnover was going through a filter. So you wanted to filter your tank at 10x an hours so to speak.

With my sump and skimmer, what is the point of high tank turn over rates??

My BK 160 probably only processes 400gph. My fuge takes some, so that would be the amount of processing my sump can do. Yet at 10x on my 90g, I should be at 900gph. Or so.

My point is should I just shoot for matching my skimmer, or shoot for turn over rate? What is the point of pumping water around? Of course I'm not talking about flow. I have my powerheads for that. I'm just talking about turnover.

Turnover through your sump ideally would be about 5X. I would not go higher than 10. Going faster is only going to move the water through faster than your filtration can efficiently process it. As you said, the return pump is not for flow within the tank ;)

Thanks. My point with this is I'm looking at replacing my 9.5 with a 1262. I am trying to decide if I can split off my return to feed my chiller too.
