I only experience with the aquaclear's. They are really quiet though. I don't think you would be disappointed at all.

Go with the aquaclear. Intank sells custom media baskets and fuges for them too. Plus they're silent.

I think I'll go with the AC, thanks guys! I'm going to get an AC 20 to try out on my ten g FW first, the whisper filter is actually keeping me up at night! It's SO loud.

These newer whisper filters are nto nearly as quiet as the old models were 10-15 years ago. I purchased a Fluval C4 and absolutely love it! I have a penguin biowheel on my FW and it is so loud(water splashing and the impeller) and I too debated between the AC and a Fluval. To me the Fluval is an updated version of an AC. Very easy to maintain since everything is compartmentalized unlike an AC which is layered top to bottom. I can take out JUST the sponge without disturbing the rest of the filter to rinse it off and prevent denitris buildup and nitrate production which I like. Every couple weeks I take out the chemical carbon spot to replace the carbon. The small biofiltration part is IMO somewhat useless. I put some liverock rubble in it but what is nice is it has a small sidespout that shoots water over it so it is not submerged and acts like a trickle filter. If you do nto want carbon you can use the mechinal slot as bio filtration as well. The motor is dead silent and the sound of water is near silent as long as you have the tank filled properly. Also, unlike any otherfilter I have ever had, the flowrate control actually makes a very noticable difference in flow. On the 46gallon full open the flow makes a ncie current up to the front glass but with it turned down it really help cut down on the current which is nice during feeding time.

Sorry long answer and maybe complicated your decision, but I know you also have a 46gal bowfront and I love my new C4. Cant attest to tis longevity yet since its only a month old
