I cant seem to to be able to keep acans in my main 75gallon tank but i can keep them in my 14bio.

I have most every kind of lsp in my 75 gallon tank and they are perfect but acans retract to the skeleton. I have scolys, hammer, frogsspawn, all types of mushrooms, some sps, Leathers, chalice, lobos, brains.... everythings is perfect in the tank so the water conditions are fine... just cant figure this out. Its been like this for months.

I was thinking it could be my lights but has anyone ever heard of this. Can it be my color combo....I have a 48" T5 setup with 2 actinic 1 10k 1 purple plus. Maybe I need something closer to 10k or get rid of the purple plus. Any ideas. Acans are my favorite coral and i can only keep them in my bio which dulls out the color

I can't think of anything except

    Are you feeding them?

What position are they in the tank?

They stay closed and never open. Doesnt make sense why they are the only coral that doesnt do well in the tank

I was hoping someone heard of this before.

I've heard of it!!! I've had one in my tank for a year. Never opened until a month ago. I'm not kidding!! I almost threw it out twice. But I was still seeing flesh so I left it alone.
Then I started feeding my Mandarin on the same rock the acan's on. Frozen brine/blood worms. WOW!! Couple days later....here it is today!!! Just pile food on it, no flow and let it sit fer a bit.

where are they in your tank. YES acan can respond differently to different light. They are a fairly low light coral so I keep them towards the bottom of the tank. They also like mod flow so maybe adjust your powerheads a little

The other thing is are you target feeding. In a 14g they are able to grab food a little easier than they are in a 75g. I target feed my acans with a light turkey baster of meaty foods such as cyclopeeze and brine. As they are more receptive to foods I will eventually move them up to krill!

Be careful with the Acan's proximity to that Blasto, Nana, especially now that the Acan is getting stronger. I had a similar situation a while back. They were close by for a long time, then one day the Acan decided to attack...

Wow thanks for the heads up :) I'd be totally bummed out if that were to happen. I've had that Blasto for 3yrs.
