Acan Lord growth

    I bought an Acan Lord frag about a year ago.It never really grew at all until about 6 months ago a 3 reef member suggested I spot feed it.Well after that it took off.it had 5 heads initially now it has at least 20.However it hasnt grown a bigger base.Its still sitting on about a 1" x 1" square base.Also it is pretty well surrounded by other corals now My question is does it need more room so it can put down more hard structure or is that not how this coral grows.
    The pic is before it grew 15 more heads!!All the spaces in between polyps and underneath is filled with acans now...

    The polyps will spread out from around the base IME like Faviids.
