acan more like acan't

Ok just saying i have had acans for ever that have grown from 1 head. Never feed them anything. But lets not argue.

I am sure they picked up scraps from me feeding the fish tho its worth a shot tho. Try squirting them some mysis.

 

Thanks Whiskey... So here is my issue with feeding. I do try and feed them. I feed at night usually and turn my pumps off and use a long turkeybaster. I do exactly what that guy does in the video but... I never see my acan eat food like that. Seems like the food just lays on top of the head and it never closes up. So really have not been very succesful in getting them to eat..

Your parameters do look good, but it's often swings that will have the most affect on corals especially LPS.

How do you maintain your parameters as far as dosing and water change schedule?

Have you compared night time and day time Ph readings?

I think it's pretty unlikely that lack of direct feeding is the problem in a tank that's fed at all, but it definitely doesn't hurt. Try meat based pellets. Acans love them and they sink down and stay put even in moderate flow.

 

If they aren't eating this leads me to believe that there is another issue going on and they aren't happy.

 

No feeding does seem kind of strange. Maybe try a couple hours of complete darkness and just have a look with a flashlight to see if the tentacles are extended or not. If not then there's something else going on. Could your zoas be leaving toxins in the water causing your acans to be tight lipped? Maybe try moving them in different light intensities to check if there is an improvement with some of them. They typically don't take lots of light. I'm not sure if your running carbon or not as it has not been mentioned. Zoas leave toxins in the water which may effect some corals more than others.

any fish picking on them? There are shrimp that eat starfish which may help with that...
