I love the acans. Great coral IMO and mine are spreading fast. Started with 2 heads a couple months ago and now have 5. I have mine placed mid way in the tank with T5's. As far as the price it just depends on what acan it is and the area you are in. They are only worth what you are willing to pay and that goes for anything in this hobby.

I love my acans...they can be rather pricey depending on what type or color

Acans can actually change colors slightly from one system to another.

Requirements are actually a very forgiving coral IMO. Of course you want to have stable water parems, nitrate and ammonia neg, normal pH etc. But they are not as sensitive to swings as the chalice or other corals.

I place mine (have about 6 colonies, two rather large) on the rocks on the bottom of my tank. They like good flow, and love meaty type feedings. Before my fish that I got rid of decided that my acans were tasty little snacks, I was placing pieces of krill onto individual polyps of the coral about 2 -3 x week. A colony will share its nutrition unlike some other corals...so you dont have to feed each polyp individually. However since they are a little freaked and not putting their feeding tentacles out like they were right now I am feeding brine and mysis to it. Which is what I recommend doing to start with when you get an acan...they will take it better at first then the krill. Plus from my experience most acans that you buy at a store are near starving, so this is a way to train them to take food (IMO not many stores...at least mine...take time to target feed this coral)

Once you have them eating they will grow nicely.
    hope this helps

I would get some, I love how they can come in just about any color imaginable.
