Man, I think we islanders have the worse accent. No one, nowhere understands us and funny enough each Caribbean Island has a different accent.
When I went to England last yr it was hard tying to get the locals to understand what I was saying. I put on a fake Brit accent and everyone understood me just fine.
I could understand most American accents mainly because our television is mainly American channels.
The only one accent that I think I have no idea what they're saying is the cockney accent in England. Three of my cousins are from Cockney and I just have to nod my head whenever they ask me a question.

I think yall have some of the coolest accents anywhere.. My old soccer coach was from "the islands" as he called it, and I was envious of that accent at times..

    cockneys are from London England
to be a cockney, a true cockney as opposed to being a Londoner, you need to be born within audible range of the bells from Bow church in Londons East End
if your born in a location where you can hear said bells , your a cockney
now anyone who isnt born within earshot of said bells but tries to pass themselves of as cockney Like that chef we have, who drives a moped and says Lovely jubbley all the time , whats his name ? Jamie Oliver thats it - well he and others like him are called
Mockneys - as they are mock cockneys

I am from Buffalo and I didnt think we really said anything weird that makes it obvious that I am from buffalo but I was wrong. I had an internship in Pittsburgh and everyone knew I was from Buffalo by the way I talk. Apparently we anunciate some vowels differently or something. Still dont really understand it but its got to be true.

Thankfully I have a pretty neutral accent. Some northerners can tell that I have a slight southerness to it (I've spent my whole life living in AL and TN), but I think it's more of what words I say and how I say them rather than an actual voice accent.

I say Soda. Pop drives me absolutely insane. But I understand the logic on both sides of the "soda is/isn't coke" thing. I happen to say ya'll alot, because it's so much easier to say than "you all'. After working in a corn maze in hick county georgia, I can pull off a fantastic southern redneck accent :D My favorite is to say "or" as two syllables "Oh-er". It's fun :)

    Hiya neighbor !

i am from the Rochester Area - i think it has to do with how we tend to have a "nasal quality" in regard to vowels. People know its not a "Brooklyn" accent but yet its definitely "new york" of some sort. My bf is from SC and i get picked on a lot when I am down there.

ie: "Rah-chester" (somewhat higher pitched and nasal sounding) instead of "Rawchester".

    :)

I say "veer" as in take this road and veer to the right

also I say "fixing" as in I am fixing to leave. As in "about".

all pop, soda, soda water, pepsi, sprite, all of it is coke. And if you say you want a coke in the restaraunts, they will ask you to specify the variety.

    Also, I say howdy.

    that's just weird ;D;)

Yes, we call all coke coke too. ;D

    That is hilarious.

I know what you mean. Common over here too.
