    Just wondering how I should go about changing this light setup out.
    What would you guys do about acclimating and dropping the hours, how long to drop for and how long until my normal light schedule can resume.

    I have a 6' long tank now with a 50" custom DIY light. It has 2 MH - 250w with 4 PC's - 55w for supplements. The MH bulbs I am running now are CoralVue 20k's.

    I am picking up a Sunpod with 3 - 250w MH that I am going to put Phoenix 14k Bulbs in. I may also supplement this if I need to with a dual T5 48'' DIY light from ReefGeeks that I have.

    I now run the PC's for about 11hrs each day and the MH's for 7 hours a day. The PC's come on at different times to give some sort of dusk/dawn effect with the actinics and regulars.

    So how would you guys acclimate this new light in?

    2 things come into play with this type of upgrade IMO

    1 = There is a 50% increase on the wattage, when you go from 2 x 250 watts to 3 x 250 watts

    2 - coral placement = some corals that where directly under the lamps, will then be to one side or the other, and other corals that where to one side of the lamps, will be directly under them

    if it where me I would
    reduce MH light up time to 4 hours 1st week, 5 hours on 2nd week, 6 hours on week 3 and then on week 4 resume my normal light up period
    I would monitor the corals for signs of discomfort on a daily basis

    alternatively you could also look at the screens method , 4 layers of screening between the light unit and your tank
    run your lights on normal hours, and then remove a layer of screen on a weekly basis
