A while ago I bought a blue tenius little mini colony - bigger than the average frag but not by much. When I got it home it had a little acro crab in it. The tiny little crab made me happy. I love the symbiotic relationships in our hobby.

Fast forward a year later when the tenius constantly fell off the rock, my normal glue-apoxy-glue sandwich was not working. The tenius died, sad. I took it out this weekend, and noticed the acro crab was still there.

I managed to get the crab off the tenius, and gently netted him and dropped him on my cali tort. This one was basically a huge frag, with a few small branches on it. The crab settled in, but didn't blend near as much as he did on the tenius.

10 minutes later, the crab has vacated his new cali digs. Do you think he will be ok? As in, he can survive without the acro, right? He's such a tiny little bugger that I know I'll never find him again, unless he wants to be found! Pretty much makes this a silly question, I guess, since I won't be able to save him regardless. I can't even find the emerald crab I put in last spring, and that would be much easier to spot than the acro crab.

I'm sad I feel like I gave him a life sentence when I took his (dead) home out of the tank. I considered setting him aside and selling on my local forum, but he was so cool, and I wanted to give my cali tort a little extra advantage.

Acro crabs can find other corals to inhabit but seem to not do well when displaced. Good luck and hopefully it will find an acro it likes. It will most likely prefer another acro like the tenuis.
