so i dont think my first attempt at acropora is going so well. i bought a frag about 2 inches tall.

put it in the tank on thursday night.

friday noticed some tissue degeneration at the base, showing some skeleton its just a sliver but makes me worry

today, hasn't really got worse. dont see any polyps (by itself i wouldnt be to worried about the no polyps yet)

    1.024 at 79 degrees
    ammonia, nitrite, nitrate are undetectable
    phosphate is between 0-.2
    ph is 8.2
    alk 12dkh
    Ca 400

all measurements were takes last night before the weekly 10% change i did this morning, which is why the ca is a little low

frag is placed about 12 inches below surface under a 6x54 watt t5, "stock" slimpaq bulbs (new ATI's should be here next week). i know that my lights are kinda border line. but if they are an issue i doubt i would see any negative affects so soon.

flow is from a vortech mp40 set on reef crest about 80%.

the only other coral i have is a monti cap, brain, and frogspawn (which are all doing more then just ok)

i think the problem was the acclimation process, or lack there of. i floated for about 30 minutes. dumped about half the water out of the bag. then put a cup of my water in. measured SPG....matched. put it in the tank. i think i should have dripped it, or done the water matching a little slower/longer.

any thoughts??? ideas?? should i wait it out a little longer?? cut the bottom of the frag off and glue it back down???

well nothing here raises any flags. how old is your tank?

but I would not cut and re-glue it, that would be more stress. best bet is to just hope that it makes it... not much you can do to make it change its mind

thats kind of a tricky question. i uprgraded my 55 into a 90 about 2 weeks ago. i have been testing ammoinia/nitrite/ph like crazy and havent seen any signs of a cycle......no other livestock has been added

If it isn't getting worse then you should be OK. I had that happen with one of my acros because I accidentally rubbed the coral with my hand while my hand was dry. Lost the whole branch in 24 hours.

ahh yeah well i would say that is why... its weird but IME there is something with a young tank (even with upgrading) that sps just doesnt like

an update. its definilty hasnt got any worse. im not sure if its wishful thinking but seems like it may be getting better.

still dont really see any poylp extension, may be some at the base were it is glued to the "frag rock".
