    Hopefully this will help out the reef rookies and some veterans. It's a short list of some of the acronyms that's commonly used here on 3reef. If you see any that I've forgotten, please add to the list. I bet if we asked Matt nicely he'll make a place for them. ;D

    Cyrano___Cyan bacteria

    DI___Deionization, type of water purification

    DIY___Do it yourself

    DSB___Deep Sand Bed

    FAMA___Freshwater and Marine Aquaria Magazine

    FO___Fish only

    FOWLR___Fish only with live rock

    FW___Freshwater

    GPH___Gallons per hour

    HO___High output fluorescent light

    HQI___Mercury Quartz Iodide, a type of metal halide lamp

    HTH___Hope that helps

    IO___Instant Ocean, aquarium salt

    IR___Infrared

    Kalk___Kalkwasser/calcium hydroxide solution or limewater

    LFS___Local fish store

    LS___Live sand

    MH___Metal halide light

    MJ___Maxi jet

    NO___Normal output fluorescent light

    NSW___Natural seawater

    PC___Power compact fluorescent light

    PVC___Poly vinyl chloride, used for plumbing

    RC___Reef Crystals, aquarium salt

    RO___Reverse osmosis, type of water purification

    RO/DI___Reverse osmosis, followed by deionization, type of water purification

    RR___Reef ready, aquaria with pre-drilled holes and overflows

    SG___Specific gravity

    SPS___Small polyped Scleractinian (stony) coral

    SW___Saltwater / seawater

    UGF___Under gravel filter

    UV___Ultra violet light

    VHO___Very high output fluorescent light

    WD___Wet-dry
