acroporia bleaching

    the tips are starting to bleach there about 4" from my T5s(18 watt daylight 18 antic 36 total) is there anything i could do what tipe of water flow does it need right now it had a nice med flow but about a week ago it wes being blasted by my PH

    If it's at the tips, are you sure it's bleaching? It might just be growing. Can you give us a picture?

    Certain Acropora species contain pigments and coatings that could mimic the bleaching process, however, it could be just the growing process, as Curt pointed out or just the coloration associated with the tips of that particular coral.

    Also how has your alkalinity been and how is it now? Alkalinity changes/instability can cause the tips to "burn" or "bleach".

    ok i'll check that out but maby i'm just a little concern but the polyps are almost never out since it got blasted by th PH could that clog the holes where the polyps come out from

    Probably not clog them. How long were they "blasted" by the powerhead? If they were like sitting right in front of a powerhead in a straight stream of water that can start to literally blow the flesh off of coral but Acropora really love a lot of flow so it would take a lot, or a good amount only coming from one direction for a while I believe.

    I'm pretty sure that the "bleaching" on the tip is just new growth on the coral. nothing to be concerned about.
