I want to build and 180 gallon acrylic tank from scratch. Does anyone know what type of acrylic to use and the i was thinking half inch for the thickness. Also where can you get a good deal for ordering and cutting of the acrylic?

what dimensions would you like it to be that might help out a little? For acrylic look and see if there is any local glass shops in your area that will order some for you. Also the best bet is to have them order in full sheets and just them yourself unless you are going to have them finish the edges.

Agreed. Depending on your bracing, 1/2" might be undersized. You may need to go to 3/4"

From what I have learned you want Cell Cast Acrylic, if your height dimensions are under 18" 1/2" is good if it is taller than 18 up to 24" you should use 3/4". and 24" and up you should go for 1".

I Have a 127 that I've had for 16 yrs. It is 51"x24"x24" custom made acrylic 3/8" thick all around with a brace on top 3" wide all around the outside edges and across the middle. I wish I had used 1/2" thick because there is a slight bow on the front pane. I had them put a 1/8"thick piece of black on the back pane so you couldn't see through the tank. 1/2" probably would have been better but after 16 yrs. who cares?

    Hope this helps,
