so my 40 gallon acrylic that has been setup for a good 6 months is doing well. I have yet to post pictures due to a lost camera........ however, the front has always bowed a bit, but when cleaning some salt creep behind my tank ( i was looking down from above) I noticed that the back of my tank probably bows just as much as the front. Is this normal? I really dont have much rock at all resting against the back of the tank. It is pretty much all stacked ontop of eachother with at MOST, 10 pounds touching the back of the tank, and thats probably an overstatement.

    What do you all think?

Its normal, acrylic bends its just what is does.

Although I'm not sure how much is acceptable.

also its bending from the water not the rock.

Yea i figured that little amount of rock leaning against it could not produce anything like that. I also do have a (in my opinion somewhat large) Coral life Super Skimmer 65g Rated HOB style on the tank. I figured that could be putting stress on it. The bowing is probably less than a half inch, but it is hard to measure exactly how much it is.

Normal for acrylic, the bowing is what helps make it less likely to break.

The frag tank at my LFS is acrylic. Probably 1 inch thick, with a half inch (or a bit more) bow out.

Is it an open top? No bracing?

Tape a piece of string to each corner. Now measure from the center to the string. Then you can call the manufacturer and ask them if this is too much.
