I am setting up my 100g acrylic tank and it is time to start the plumbing process but I was hoping to see pics of how other people set up the return to the tank. I have an acrylic 55g tank now that I drilled but dont really want to drill this new tank. Does anyone have pics of how you return the water to the DT, does it go up the back and then over the top or does everyone drill their tank and use bulkheads? I dont know if it helps but I am going to be using a Mag12 return pump split into 2 1" return lines. I figure the actual flow of this is going to be around 1000 gph. Please post pics if you have some, I need some ideas.

Here is how I have done mine. I have a 1.5" return pipe coming from my Reeflo Dart External pump. The return line is resting on the top of the tank on the right side of the pic. From 1.5" it goes into a 1.5" X 1" tee and on the other end is reduced by bushing to 1" size and dropped by 1" 90 into the tank itself.
It is then adapted by 1" threaded connection and it split into 4 - 1" locline nozzles.

Most people do not return through a bulkhead - bulkheads are usually used for overflows or getting water to the sump.

That is a good setup. I would do something similar to that.

Edit: I wouldn't drill the tank either. Especially when it is very easy to go over the top.

How big is your sump? I think you are going to have micro bubble issues. You generally want 5 to 10 times the sumps volume as your return rate to keep micro bubbles under control and to allow your skimmer to be more efficient.

Why would I have a micro bubble issue? The sump I use right now is a 40g sump and I planned on using the same sump for my new tank. I dont have any bubble issues now, and I use a mag12 for my return. Basically all I am doing is moving everything into a larger tank, fish, corals, skimmer, return pump, media reactors, etc.
