    I have a 55g tank with a Nova Extreme 2 bulb T5HO fixture.

Would it be a mistake add a single T5 24w blue actinic as a 24 hour moonlight? Would it be too much light when the other lights are off? Could it cause any issues, such as algae?

I would not... it would be too much light... mostly due to the spectrum etc..The actinic bulb will probably cost more than actually buying moonlights.. they are extremely cheap.. just blue LED's....

    Welcome to 3Reef!!!

Yes, that would be a mistake. A critical part of photosynthesis (for the algae that lives in your corals, clams, etc) is the dark period. The actinic would be much too bright.

Thanks for the reply. I already have a the light, which is why I was hoping it would work.

    Makes sense.

    Thanks!
