So my question is prompted by energy savings agenda.

Currently using t5s on a nano and a 65g and both have 10k and actinics.

Wondering if I can have the actinics off when not viewing the tank as it seems an $energy$ waste otherwise. Unless, the actinics are promoting growth and color in which case having them off is self defeating.

Has anyone tried running their SPS and LPS tanks without the actinics except when viewing?

Feedback appreciated and welcome! :) Thanks.

They tend to promote polyp extension, coloration and growth. So I would say leave them on, on a T-5 the energy savings isn;t that extreme anyways

they need that spectrum of light to help them make food. Leave it on...or get LEDs if you want to save energy :)

Actinics help with color a lot but provide only a little help with growth.

I'm guessing they'd need to be on in tandem with the 10K? Meaning the same amount of time?

Or a little longer for the actinic if you desired for a dawn/dusk effect.
