my actinic took a dump on me this morning, should I drive the 2 hour round trip to the place that has them or is it ok to have it shipped, I have some zoas and porites, and various fish/inverts.

Oh you know!! The normal digestive cycle of actinic lights, pretty normal right!?

I'm guessing they went out on him?

i bought the light used, and it was supposedly 6 months old, so i figured i was good for 6 months before replacement, I have read to replace every year, the 10,000k was already gone so I replaced that, but yeah, turned it on and nothing, I think it may have physicly broke, the plastic end cap is loose, It had been when I got it, but it was working then, its a 192 watt coralife aqualight, 36 inches long btw...but ill go get one today or tomorrow...thanks

As an afterthought you may want to order some extras, my bulbs are almost 6 months old and even though they should last another 6 months I will be ordering some soon so if something does happen they are right there for immediate replacement. Just a thought, a safety cushion.

yeah, sounds like a good idea, after I get this one the two bulbs will be within a month of each other time wise, in in 2 or 3 months I'll buy an extra of each of them so I have them...

You Zoas should be fine for a while. I know people whe have gone lights out for 4-5 days to combat algae with zoas in the tank and had no issues. I am not sure on the porites, maybe someone with experience with this coral will help me out. It being saturday, and the price of gas right now, If your 10k are still working I would just wait and order monday with like 2day shipping if the money savings will be significant. I would think the tank could be fine with only the 10 for a week or so, but just my .02.

zoas should be fine without actinics for quite some time... they are usually hardy even under normal fluorescents... and even under my moonlights...
