I was using the "Use Calculators" in the ACTION PANEL side and for my refugium, which measures 36"x12"15", says i need 300+ pounds of sand. That can't even remotely be right.

well I'm pretty sure depth is how deep you desire your sand bed to be, not your tank's size. so the calculator said you would need 300 pounds to fill your refugium completely with sand.

when I said "completely" I meant "completely" as in up to the rim, not a few inches like a real sand bed.

You need to put in how deep you want your sand bed to be not how deep your tank is.

It asks for tank dimensions. I don't see where it asks for sand depth.

all I see is spaces for dimensions.

since this is calculating how many pounds of sand you will need, doesn't it make since to enter volume you want to fill up with sand.

sostoudt is right. This calculator figures out how many pounds you'd need to fill to a desired depth. You put the dimensions of the tank. If you filled the tank to the top with sand it'd take 308 lbs.

Instead, use the length, width, and height of sand desired. For example, sand to a depth of 2" would require 41.25 lbs.
