Well I work on a ship and often times I am hundreds of miles offshore and could get water with out a problem. Many times I even go home in my home port of Houston where I could bring it home with no problem. Would this be of any benefit if its not much of a hassle?

You would need to make sure it was clean water. No parasites, diseases, bacteria, and overall bad stuff in the water. More of a hassle than using an ro/di or going to the store to buy some.

ive read the opposite, but have no experience first hand. ive read of a lot of people that use straight up ocean water

that said, id probably opt for just making your own. not a hassle really, and you have guaranteed good water

If you could get ocean water from that far out, and get it home without an issue, I'd use that. Cool that you work on a ship, what kind of work do you do?

Hopefully you aren\'t planning on getting it from the Gulf of Mexico.

thats the thing though, that seems like a huge PITA to me to lug back any sizable amount of water....i mean id do it if it was easy, but that just seems like a pain

Well actually I can get if from off the keys, bahamas, pureto rico, or just about anywhere in the guld or east coast.

The water is so clean looking out there and blue its kinda insane. Wake up some mornings and its calm as a duck pond! I will post pictures of the tide line coming out of the mississippi river in a few so you can see some crazy stuff I see.

As for the oil spill and what I do...

I transit oil on a ship so I am all over the place and only time I have seen oil in near the panhandle of Florida. Its not all over like they say on the news.

I have several clean old water bottles that go ontop of a chiller you know those 5 gallon ones with screw on lids. Well it wouldnt be hard for me to stop and fill them up then its just putting them in the car and taking them home when I am on my time off really not much trouble.

I\'m sure it\'s pumped up by the media like anything else but the actual amount of oil is still a HUGE amount wether its all over or not.
