Last time I had my Hex set up, all I did was to go the the pier/jeti and get water when the tide came in/went out. It was very clear and looked good. (I only had 15 minutes to get it) After 6 months of doing that, the only fish I could keep was fish I caught from my throw net. I could never keep a fish bought from a LFS.

I would make sure you get the water from the same place every time. Local concentrations of traces and salinity vary.

Be kinda hard to get it from the same place everytime. I could get it from deep in the gulf everytime but as exact location not very likely! LOL

Here are the pics of the tide line coming out of the mississippi river.

Wouldn't you need to keep the ocean water aerated the whole time? It seems like any of the micro organisms the water contained would die during transport and pollute your sea water. I am assuming you are at sea for weeks at a time not picking up a few gallons and running home? Not trying to be a bummer but sounds like more trouble than it is worth.

Yea the pics are the Mississippi river flowing into the ocean and they call it the tide line. The ocean was actually at flood tide while I was coming out of the river and it was just right to get a "crisp" line. Its not always like that but when I seen it this time I took a picture since not many people get to see it like that.

Yea I am not sure its worth it or if anything would be alive ect when it got home. I might bring back 5 gallons and let it sit and test it or take it to the LFS and have them test it for everything. Its just an idea or thought not sure if it would be worth while. Obviously there are things in sea water that we try to replicate but I am not sure we can get it exactly correct.
