So I recently have been upgrading my setup so i thought of putting a new led fixture on my tank. However the onky reason for this is to add tge shimmer effect to my water as my tank is f/o. Could I simply retrofit some onto my t5 fixture ? Also what are dimable lights and moonlight ?

Led's need to be mounted to a heat sink which pulls the heat away from the light emitting diod. They are wired in a series and then matched to a driver. Dimming them is simply done with a dimming driver and some kind of matching control device. Rapid led has some nice kits, Cree emitters are some of the best out there.
Since your fish only there are things like led strips out there that are plug n play, not big on these if thinking about corals.
There's a manf. that post on here that is bringing out led bulbs meaning they fit into the t5 sockets, maybe another member knows who it is, i dont remember. (old age) lol
Moons are simply minimal light such as led pods over the tank when the light cycle is off, gives you enough light to see into the tank and looks nice but thats jmo.

Check out the Kessil A150W LEDs... very affordable and awesome little light. Very happy with the 10K sky blue so far, and the shimmer from this thing is absolutely amazing!
