Decided to add another fish today. I've had my eye on this goatfish for some time. Extremely active getting into the nooks of the rock. I am guessing it is a bicolor but even then it doesn't look like many of the pics I've seen. It is quickly becoming known by the other fish in the tank as "the guy that keeps trying to fondle me with his feeler thingys".

... and in a related note I seem to have the most social damsels in the world.

Social damsels are like bigfoot so it's only fitting that it's a blurry picture.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
    Oh he is tiny.

The only goat fish I am familiar with are those that follow you around diving, or nibble at your feet when snorkeling. They get fairly large right?

This one is a couple inches, body mass the Chromis may still have him due to body thickness.

Seems they do get bigger than I realize. Droid battery was dead and I was at a lfs that I don't typically go to.

I just hope the tang police don't branch off with a subdivision the GBI (Goatfish Bureau of Investigation)

It's in a 45 now, recommended tank is a 50 so I need to figure something out soon.

They're not on to you yet so your safe lol.

In the wild they stir up the bottom a lot, always searching for a morsel. Have a nice curious personality.

I always wanted a yellow goatfish, but my current tank isn't big enough. I considered one of these. I haven't figured out why LiveAquaria recommends a 50 gallon tank, then says it needs lots of swimming room and gets 10" long LOL.

They will eat all the fauna in your sandbed, though, so be ready for that. Kinda like sandsifting gobies. I still haven't decided if I still want a yellow when the 140 is ready. I just can't reconcile the "needs lots of room" and "gets 10" to 1'+" of the 3 goatfish with the tank size recommendations.

Definitely keep us updated on this fish, though. There's never much 1st hand info out there on them and I'd love to hear personal experiences.

I suspect it won't be with me too long. That tank versus size recommendation is baffling. Very interesting to watch, I"ll update as long as I have it

Yeah, it baffles me too LOL.
Please do keep us updated, though. What you say will probably help me decide if I want one or not (probably not, since we're thinking lots of small fish in the 140).

The goatfish has pulled a Keyser Soze and like that.... he was gone.

No fish corpse, no ammonia problems, covered tank so jumping is unlikely unless he hit a tiny tiny hole...

dunno, maybe he will reappear but it's been about two weeks and no sign of it.
