I have a friend that houses a breeding pair of YWG. While I have no personal experience with keeping a pair, I would think your chances are improved with younger specimens. Since you already have one I would see if you can get one smaller in size but not a very young one.

Add some areas of rubble to the tank to allow for individual territories until they become accustomed to one another. The size of your tank plays in your favor as well. Honestly I would be surprised if any aggression lasted longer than the usual acclimation period.

After researching C. Cinctus i determined that my best bet would be to find a lighter (grayer) colored YWG as i have heard it said that the grayer ones are females (i have also heard that there is no way too tell).

I got the lightest one possible from my LFS and added it to my aquarium. They went straight towards each other (my YWG's) and there was a submissive (from the new specimen) and a threatening appearance (from the resident). The threatening was limited to swelling up and making its jaw VERY wide. this lasted briefly, (15 seconds or less), and they are now in the same burrow and have been for an hour or so.

Considering that they are so tolerant of each other immediately, i believe i may have gotten a male/female pair. Thus, it has been a success.

    Enjoy the pics..[IMG]

Nice! They are already sharing a burrow!? Do you already have a pistol, or is that the next step?

Annie, yes i have a Japanese Snapping Shrimp, however there is no bond formed. my resident YWG has paired with a tiger pistol before but the pistol hasnt been seen in a very long time, i dont believe it is in my aquarium anymore:-/.

To answer your question, Annie, my next step is to get a PAIR of tiger pistols to form a bond with my PAIR of C. Cinctus. That way i would have a small group in my aquarium. I think it would be really fascinating to watch.

They look really cool together. You are going to have to take lots of pictures of them and document how they interact and hopeful breed. Looking forward to the progress. They sure look happy, well as much as a goby can.8)
