so im moving come june and would like to add a sump while i have the tank off the stand. The tank itself is not drilled. I was looking at getting an aftermarket overflow.

heres the model that im looking at. i was told this is a good one.

Reef Aquarium Filtration: Eshopps Overflow Boxes

    Now the specs:

My tank is a 65 gallon and i would be adding a sump for about 300 gallons as to accomodate my upgrade next year. I will be purchasing a skimmer
(ASM G-2) to also accomodate my upgrade. My question is A) is this enough GPH for a 65 gallon including the powerheads in the tank, and B) i would like to know what the most recommended pump is, external and internal. I would love to have an external but i dont think im going to have room for it.

Thanks for looking and for you help. Any questions please ask, i wll be glad to answer.

Don't do it. Those U-tubes suck. They have to be serviced and get air stuck in the top of the U. I have tried this type of O-floe and will never use one again. Try a continuous siphon o-flow.

I agree with missionsix, I had that U-tube before and nothing beats a drilled tank.

if you sump is that big i would get an asm3 considering the size of your sump and depending on what size tank you are planning on. the price difference is so small you mine as well get the 3

.......??????? I've been using a U-Tube overflow to get the water from my fuge back into my sump for about 6 months now. I haven't had a single problem yet....

    ...in fact.............

.....yep I just got up to look at it. No trapped air bubbles. It's humming along just fine.

It's the overflows like this that I wouldn't trust:

But even in my defense of U-Tubes as stated above, I agree with this statement even more. If it's at all possible to drill your tank, do it. Otherwise, my opinion only (not trying to start an argument), the U-Tubes work fine and they don't lose their siphon in a power outage. That other overflow I gave you a link to would be problematic in that situation.

yeah i was told by my cousin there good, and then admittedly, a few other people on a different forum have had very good reviews with them as well. I know absolutely nothing about drilling a tank but the bottom is tempered and I would much rather not risk breaking the back. Im good with tools, but not that good lol. I considered getting it done professionally but my tank cant be down that long and i don't want to move the sand from the tank more then i already need to. I made the mistake of not getting it drilled already but will soon be getting the upgrade, so the HOB overflow will have to do.

Now you also said that it doesn't lose siphon during power outage, which would mean after the water level goes below the intake basket then it will not continue to go to the sump right??

The future tank will be a 150-210. Drilled dual overflow. I guess i will get the ASM G-3 for the small amount and get even better skimmate.

Brandon, what does yours look like? I'm in the middle of figuring out how to do it too without drilling. DIY is best for me!

If your moveing that means your going to have to strip down the tank right?
Plan ahead and organize to get the tank drilled during the day of the move!!
For what it will take, you will be so much more content with the drilled tank.
I think that you could also install a overflow that day as it will be summer and the sealent will set pritty fast 24hrs say and you could just run a 60gl rubbermaid for the night with your live stock.
    just my 2 cents.

That's correct. And then when your power comes back on it starts doing its thing again. But like I said, that's only with the U-Tube siphons. The other one you need an airlifter to restart the siphon.
