Does adding a volume of water to the system create a cycle or anything else?

For example, someone has a 60gal DT that was cycled (6+ months), then someone added a 40b sump with say 25-30 gallons of fresh made saltwater. Does that new water cause anything to happen within the system?

The example is what I did... ::) but I did it back in early June. I have wondered this from time to time. Of course I didn't start wondering this until after I got the sump wet. However, curiosity still makes me wonder what happens or is happening.

    thanks!

The new water will only dilute the wastes in the DT unless the sump is dirty to start with.

Maybe a small algae bloom due to silicates in the new equipment?

I agree with 2 in 10 - the added water shouldn't cause anything to happen with a cycle.

Thanks! I'm glad to know my head is making up fake tank scenarios to drive me a little more crazy... haha
