Yeah I guess a high-gloss white paint would work best.

id still try to find out if this is a viable option. Amazon.com: Coleman Emergency Blanket: Sports & Outdoorsi dont know what material they're made from nor do i know if they corrode. for the $1 it'd cost to get one and test would be worth it i think.

i have some of these i can cut a piece off and SOAK it in saltwater and then it air dry with salt water all over it and see if it corrodes. i dont know how long you have for an experiment though :)

I bet I could go to the camping section of Walmart or Meijer and find the emergency blanket.

They are made out of Mylar a metalicized nylon (plastic).

For my canopy I'm using marine grade 2 part epoxy paint which will bond to the wood and keep out the salt water and since it's made for boats it should hold up very well & may never need to be redone, unlike a regular paint.

In fact the paint should arrive today so I'll be painting then updating my thread on it.

ah yes, mylar. i couldnt recall the name of the material.

im doing my experiment with mylar in and around saltwater to see if it corrodes.

@sean: yes you can get it at meijer, wallmart, etc. just make sure you get the straight mylar one and not the THERMAL mylar blanket. thats thicker, and will retain heat obviously.

hrmm the one im looking at says its environmentally friendly, and waterproof. anyways - onto the testing. i tried googling if mylar emergency blankets were in fact truly waterproof and non-corrosive but i came up dry (pardon the pun :))
