Now that it is up and running i have a question. The sump is is 20 gallons as well as my DT which is also 20 gallons. Do i add 40 gallons worth of chemical? and do i add it all to the sump or put half in the DT and half in the sump?

    Thanks,
    Ryan

I dump in chems into the sump right above the pump intake. It gives them a good mix before they get to the DT. I've been calculating my water capacity for the sake of reef additives as DT + (sump/2) just to avoid any over dose. Also, you might account for the displacement of the LR and sand bed. so really my calculation is more like (DT-25%) + (sump/2) = system capacity.

I estimate the complete water volume of both tanks also considering rocks etc.

I dont cont the rock, cause if its the right rock, it should be very porous and very water logged, and its not really worth all the effort. I round my 85g tank and sump to 100g. Most additives round out by 20 and 40 gal incriments.
