I allready have a sump going with bio balls and the works, it is 10 gallon. I am buying a Medium Aquafuge with light which is HOB. I will put a DSB in this and add Chaetao. Do i still need my Sump? Will my HOB fuge be enough filtration for my tank with the Chaetao? I will have a DSB in my 46 Gallon Bow with 115 Pounds of live sand and 5 pounds of live sand in my HOB fuge. Would it be better to have the wet dry sump going as well? or can I ditch it? I will also have a Protein Skimmer running. Some opinions and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I don't see the need for sand in the HOB fuge. Do you have a HOB skimmer as well, or is that in your W/D? Are you just asking to get rid of the sump or the bio balls?

Read the sump fuge and filter thread in my sig below. That should help.... or give you more questions. :)

I have a deep sand bed in my refugium and I grow a variety of macro’s – but no cheato since that prefers to tumble in fast water and I am following the 10%/hour school of thought.

In addition to my refugium I also keep my sump as it’s a convenient place to run carbon, skimmer, filter pads for polishing etc…plus the extra water for displacement is always beneficial, plus oxygen exchange…heck, lets face it – many reason to keep the sump.
