I'm trying to reduce the possible mini spike I might have here so, Here is the plan....

I did a water change in the DT, and have that water in a garbage bin that i use for the WC's. I have 2 Korillas and a heater running in it, and I have an Eheim 2217 that I had runnning on the main tank for about a week, now in the can.
When the rock comes Tues or Wed, I'll put it in the can. Let it sit in there for about a week. Do another WC in the DT, use that water to do a WC in the can with the rock. Let sit for a few days. Then move it to the DT.
Going this extra mile here using the main tank water might reduce the mini spike? It is 50 more lbs, but its a 155, with 110lbs already.
What do you think? Or am I insane like my wife says? (lol)..

I guess using your wc water to cure your LR is more economical than mixing up fresh sw.

Exactly. I figure that water from the tank its going into, would also reduce the spike i'll get.

I still have to mix up SW for the change, but the water from the DT will have all the nutrients and chem's from the tank also.

I would have added it to begin with, but I spend the budget on the right/better equipment at the time figuring I could always add more LR.

That is literally exactly how I cure mine--never had an issue--be careful--with the power head running in the can with the lid on you probably wont need a heater--the pump acts as a heater

Doesn't matter if the rock you are buying is cured,if it is being shipped, there will be die off.I would let my nose and test kits tell me when it's ready.

I just want to avoid the mini spike as much as possible as I don't want to loose fishes or corals. Realizing 50lbs is a lot to add at one shot.
I glad to see others are doing the same -Jake-. Have you done this before? what were your results?

I didn't think of the power head giving off heat. Good point. I'll have to keep an eye on the temp then.

Maybe you could slowly peice in rock by rock over time, giving most rock time to cure more in bin and slowly adding lr to your tank. just an idea.
