not with 50 pounds of rock but yes
I started out trying to add it slowly but it took to long so I got a bucket filled it with old wc water and plopped in a powerhead. left it for a while forgot about it lol and found it idk like 2 weeks later tested for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate was zip so i added it in had almost no spike (just a tiny tiny one)(raised my nitrate by like 1) but this was only with idk maybey 2 or 3 pounds of lr rubble
this time i am doing 4-5 pounds of rubble so we will see how it works

    Oh No!

I just added 15lbs of established live rock that I bought from some and... I woke up this morning and two of my starter damsel fish where dead! The other three damsels are breathing pretty heavily. I tested my water before I added the rock and this morning after I discovered the dead fish. All reading where normal. What happened what did I do wrong? PLEASE HELP!!!:-[

freshly mixed SW has many more nutrients than extracted SW from a WC... you may want to keep that i mind seeing that most the calcium thats in your water comes from the salt you mix up, so your new most likley coraline covered rock wouldnt have enough nutrients to stay as live, as long as expected.. i think i just confused myself.....

Why not just add base rock from here on out? It is cheaper, has zero chance of causing any cycle, or coming with any bad hitch hikers. It will liven up the same as any other rock.

Lol! Confused me too. I was thinking about that also. I just wanted whatever good bacteria that was already in the established tank to be in with the new rock.
But 5 days after I put the rock in the can, it started to stink a little. I tested the water and sure enough, had a spike, so yesterday I did a 50% WC in the can with newly mixed SW. So far, so good. Will do another test this evening and see how it is.
I think that 50lbs of rock in a 32 gallon can might just bee too mush and not enough water. I might have to seperate it into a 2nd can.
