About a week ago I lost the bigger(presumably) female naked ocellaris in my 32 gallon. Been in tank since Dec 13. No signs of disease, but came home one day and it was gone... Checked overflow, checked carpet... Just gone although I suspect maxi mini anemone. Now I have 1 clown but don't like the look of just one clown. I was looking at getting another one but the problem is the ocellaris that is left is pretty small About and inch or so. I have heard it's best to introduce a new clown that is smaller then the established clown but not sure if that's realistic. I was also thinking about adding 2 clowns but I know I would be running a risk. I'm going to check water to make sure params are good before introducing another fish but anemones, clams and other livestock looks normal. Any thoughts about adding new clowns?

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
If always safe to assume a remaining clown is a female or becoming a female, therefore it's prudent to purchase a smaller clown that has not been isolated from other clowns.

I added a smaller one to my tank and he was nearly beaten to death. I removed him and isolated him tonheal as he was finless and thin.

I fed him back to health, moved some rocks, and put him back in. They seemed to get along. He went missing a few days later. I assume he died and a bristle cleaned it up.

Got back from my LFS today and picked up this snowflake clown, it was the smallest clown they had and was in a tank with about 10 others. Haven't seen any aggression yet and looks like it's going to take to the anemone soon. Fingers crossed.

My clowns have been together for over a month plus how ever long they were in the LFS tank and they have just barely started to pair up. was the one that remains now the female or did you lose the female?

I lost the female as it was the larger of the two and they went through the dominance phase where the larger would chase the smaller and the smaller would submit by shaking..... Not sure if the existing clown will accept the new one. They acted fine when I first add the snowflake but I ran an errand and came back a few hours later and the naked had the snowflake cornered in the top of the tank. It wasn't attacking it, but was just going into its anemone the back up to the top of the tank where the snowflake was...lights have been off for a few hours so hopefully they won't stress out all night.

Sounds like the established clown may be defending it's territory (the nem) until it decides if it wants the new one for a mate. Adding a new clown is always hit-or-miss, but it sounds like neither are being overly aggressive, so that may be a good sign. Here's hoping for ya. :thumbs_up1:
