adding rock

    Been planning on doubling the rock in my 155.. have about 100 in there now w/ 100lbs of sound as I was trying to save some money when setting it up.... but now that its established.. its pretty clear that I need more rock..

    Depending on the source of base rock it could indeed cause a mini cycle. Apparently some places are just selling dried out live rock as base rock.. which would contain dead hitch hikers and all types of decaying matter.. which means you'd prolly get some ammonia in the tank when adding.

    I boil base rock when I can to kill off anything hitching a ride. I picked up a baby stone crab once that was a killer crab. He ate my Hippo tang!
